Welcome to Cafe Highgate, a charming café nestled in the heart of Willingham, Over, just a stone's throw from Cambridge. This delightful spot isn't just a café; it's a community hub where flavors meet warmth, and smiles greet you as soon as you walk through the door.

Cafe Highgate boasts a menu that is both enticing and diverse, perfect for anyone looking to indulge after a brisk morning stroll or refuel post-workout. With delicious brioche sandwiches taking center stage, every bite is a testament to quality and flavor. Their buttered toast paired with jam, honey, or Marmite is a comforting classic, while the toasted sourdough with poached eggs at just £3.50 provides a delightful textural contrast that is simply too good to resist.

But let’s not forget the refreshing beverages from the Cambridge Juice Company, including freshly squeezed orange juice (£3.25) and still or sparkling water (£2.00), ensuring you stay hydrated while enjoying your meal. And for a fizzy treat, the delightful Raspberry Lemonade and Ginger Beer available at £3.50 each, are sure to quench your thirst and uplift your spirits.

As you settle in, the café’s inviting atmosphere really shines through. With a family-friendly vibe complete with toys and books for children, it’s a perfect gathering spot for families seeking both good food and a warm, welcoming environment. Patrons rave about the attentive service—like in the experience of customer Rose Guy, who couldn’t help but leave a glowing review before even stepping out the door. She's not alone; many echo her sentiments about the friendly staff who deliver service with a smile, ensuring that every patron feels at home.

Another highlight is their special themed nights, such as the popular Greek night which Lucy R enthusiastically praised for transporting diners straight to a vibrant taverna. It's clear that Cafe Highgate is not just about eating; it’s about creating memorable experiences that linger long after your last bite.

Whether you're stopping in for a quick coffee break, searching for a satisfying brunch or a light lunch, or looking for a cozy place to unwind with friends, Cafe Highgate has something to offer everyone. With consistently great food, a diverse menu, and engaging service, it’s no wonder customers can’t wait to return.

Make your next coffee break a mini-retreat at Cafe Highgate—where every visit feels like catching up with a good friend over delicious food!

Haven't even left yet and we had to leave a glowing review! We had a very delicious lunch here with the family, and really enjoyed some of the brioche sandwiches. The hot chocolate was delicious and the Jaffa layer cake even more so! Also delightful service, fast to deliver food and so friendly. Kids also loved the toys and books available to play with at the table. Highly recommend!

We went for the Greek night and the food was superb. Really tasty and the music was a nice touch made me feel like I was out in a taverna. I’d like to go back again to try the usual menu!

Recently had a wonderful visit to Café Highgate and the filter coffee was great. The delicious cakes were a hit, and the pulled pork brioche was yummy – tender, flavourful and utterly satisfying. The café’s family-friendly atmosphere, complete with toys for the kids, made our visit stress-free and thoroughly enjoyable. Great food, excellent coffee, and warm hospitality. Thank you Ben and team for such a great experience!

Every year I have the absolute honour to be Cafe Judge for Velvet* Food & Drink Awards. One thing I LOVE about my visits is that they are not all based in Cambridge. We got to enjoy nearly the full gamut of offerings under Velvet’s distribution area in 2024, and this stop brought me and my guest judge to Willingham. The long awaited and newly opened Café Highgate was founded by Kevin Brittain and Ben Sulston who grew up in the area and played for local football team, the Willingham Wolves! Ben is probably best known for his unparallelled skills as a chef, and his supper clubs, namely Hidden by Puddini, and Kevin describes himself as a serial entrepreneur, most recently founding Runpreneur, a vlogging platform he intends to promote to raise money for children’s charities. These two are just absolute legendary humans to be honest. It is evident that they love their community and their work, and it was heart-warming to see this manifested in their café where we were greeted with a picture-perfect scene of 3 families seated around the first long table at the entrance. This was particularly important to the plus one (and a half) I had joining me on this visit. I had the puppy with me as usual and as per reputation, and my guest had her 2-year-old daughter with her. Niki entered before me to settle the little one, while I brought Truffle next door to the Vet and Pet Shop. When I eventually joined, she wasted no time at all reporting just how wonderful the staff had been in welcoming them, and helping her entertain Ellie. This allowed her to properly peruse the menu, and be able to enjoy their playdate and time together while waiting for the food to arrive. The food and drinks came out quickly despite how busy they were with the next wave of families coming in from the Wellness Centre just around the corner. It is definitely worth acknowledging that Truffle was also looked after with a bowl of water, and a treat (or three) from behind the counter. Café Highgate is a much-loved addition to Willingham Farm and shops, and with its plethora of supper clubs, tastings, and upcoming events in the evenings as Restaurant Highgate, it is already establishing itself as a destination spot. It would be a shame if it didn’t with Chef Ben behind it! The building boasts high ceilings, natural light, and a brick façade behind the counter and along the walls. Through a little online image investigation, it has gone through at least 3 incarnations since 2020 – The Book Warren and Café, Through The Looking Glass (unverified), and finally Café Highgate by day, Restaurant Highgate at night – the interior décor largely untouched throughout. The café side of the business has been open for 8 months (at the time of this visit), with the restaurant more formally establishing itself in February of this year (2024). Café Highgate, the Country Store Farm Shop, the Veterinary Clinic, the Willingham Gym and Wellness Centre and all the other businesses on the site are just a 1 hour bus ride away, a 28 minute drive, 51 minute cycle, and a 3 hour and 41 minute walk (if you’re willing – it might just be worth it). It is wheelchair accessible and there is plenty of parking on site. Wishing them all the best in business! Riadh & Truffle
